Skip to contentI painted this scene of Loch Leven on plywood which gives an interesting effect. As you walk by the piece you can see the subtle wood grain effect catching reflecting light off the satin varnish. I also managed to capture a time lapse video of me painting this one!
Donated to Accord Hospice following their annual art exhibition.

Please note. The photographs showing examples have been taken under muted natural lighting. Due to difference in various device screen displays there may be some slight colour variations.
I find that the best photos for painting are taken with soft lighting from one side, for example sitting next to a window or outside on a bright day.
Photographs that tend not to work well are usually poorly lit, too far away or blurred. I also don’t work from black and white images.
I will often change the background to compliment or contrast with the subject in a loose style.
