I loved the composition of this scene, and the contrast between the dark trunks and the luminous snow. I wanted to experiment with how blues and greys can create shadow and depth in snow, and to give a feeling of distance so you can imagine yourself walking along the path. It was a labour of love, painted over several weeks and many sessions from an online reference photograph. It sat for a while in a white frame that never quite suited it. Since moving it to a dark brown and black frame, I feel it really comes alive.
